Clay Workshops 

Six Week Clay Workshop (£115) Or book either Three-Week courses (£63)

Wednesday 22nd April - 30th May 7 - 9 pm

Part 1 Wednesday 22nd April - 30th May or Part 2 Wednesday 13th  - 30th May

 

 

Over the course, Ceramic Artist Karen Dawn Curtis will guide you step by step through the basic techniques of slab building. Each week, you will learn new skills building your confidence in the material, while having fun. In the last week, you will learn to glaze your own work.

 

By the end of the six weeks, you will have made six clay objects including a jug, coil pot and sculptural object. All the work will be glazed fired and will be ready for collection within a month of the end of the course.

 

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with some experience of clay. The price of the workshop includes all materials, tools and two firings along with remaining pieces being glazed by Karen.

 

Karen Dawn Curtis’ workshops will look to create a relaxing environment where your imagination and creativity will be given space to thrive. Aprons will be provided but it is advised that participants wear clothes they are happy to get a little clay on.

 



 

 

Clay Making Workshops (£23 or £63 for three)

Part 1 Sculptural Animals Saturday 18th April 10.30 am -12.30 pm

Part 2 Lidded Pots Saturday 16th May 10.30 am - 12.30 pm

Part 4 Footed Planter Saturday 18th July 10.30 am - 12.30 pm

 

 

Ceramic Artist Karen Dawn Curtis will guide you step by step through the basic techniques of building the object. You will be shown a different technique on how you can decorate your object.

 

By the end of the session, you will have made a mug, planters, lidded pot or sculptural animal. Your work will be fired and will be ready for collection within a month of the session.

 

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with some experience of clay. The price of the workshop includes all materials needed to make the set project, tools and a stoneware firing.

Pottery Practice - Six-week block (Basis £115) 

Karen Dawn Curtis' Pottery, Unit 12 b, Foundry Lane, St Michael's Trading Estate, Bridport, DT6 3RR

 

Thursday 26th March to Thursday 30th April 7– 9 pm

 

This six-week block is designed to give you the space to develop your own work, whether you have attended one of Karen’s hand-building courses or have practised pottery at school or at another point the group environment will give you room to be inspired by other learners. Each week Karen will do a five-minute introduction on a different potter or ceramicist work to enhance your making.

 

This six-week block is for those with experience of clay. There are three pay scales:

 

Small Work (£110) 

The price includes access to pottery studio including library or Ceramic magazines and books, Karen’s expertise in ceramics for advice on making, hand-building tools, 2.5 kg of clay and 7 litres of bisque firing and 7 litres of a glaze firing and use of house glazes.

 

Basic Price (£115) 

The price includes access to the studio, Karen’s expertise in ceramics for advice on making, hand-building tools, 5 kg of clay and 15 litres of bisque firing and 15 litres of a glaze firing and use of house glazes.

 

Large Work (£125)

The price included access to the studio, Karen’s expertise in ceramics for advice on making, hand-building tools, 8 kg of clay and 20 litres of bisque firing and 20 litres of a glaze firing and use of house glazes.

One Day Course - Introduction to Slab Building

 

Over the day, Ceramic Artist Karen Dawn Curtis will guide you step by step through the basic techniques of slab building. Over the three projects, you will learn new skills building your confidence in the material, while having fun.

 

By the end of the day, you will have made three clay objects including a mug, a salt caddy and a figure. All the work will be taken away to be glazed fired and will be ready for collection within a month of the day.

 

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with some experience of clay. The price of the workshop includes all materials, tools and two firings along with all clay pieces being glazed by Karen.

 

Karen Dawn Curtis’ workshops will look to create a relaxing environment where your imagination and creativity will be given space to thrive. Aprons will be provided but it is advised that participants wear clothes they are happy to get a little clay on.

 

A lunch break will be included in the time. You will be able to buy lunch & refreshments from White Stones café where attendee of the course will receive a 10% discount.

 

 One Day Course - Making Oxide-coloured Cup

 

Over the day, Ceramic Artist Karen Dawn Curtis will guide you step by step through the process of making an oxide-colour cup. You will learn how to colour clay with oxides, slab-build a mug and pull a handle.

 

By the end of the day, you will have an oxide-coloured mug with complimentary coloured handle. Your mug will be taken away to be glazed fired on the inside and will be ready for collection within a month of the day.

 

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those who would like to learn this technique of colouring clay. The price of the workshop includes all materials, tools and two firings along with your piece being glazed by Karen.
